Bitcoin closed above $85,000 on Sunday 4 October, then traded back under that level by 7 October. Glassnode’s Week On-Chain that day called the push light: little new money, and recent buyers selling into it.
On Monday 12 October, CoinDesk had Bitcoin near $84,050. That print sits inside the same band. It does not replace the card.
What Glassnode measured
In A Rally Running Light, data through 7 October 2026:
- Spot plus US ETF volume averaged about $6.8 billion a day, lower than on nine days in ten since January 2024.
- The Sunday close above $85,000 came on about half a normal Sunday’s volume, with the ETFs shut.
- In the 30 days to 5 October, ETF flows, stablecoins and treasury buying brought in about $4.9 billion. Realized Cap rose about $12.8 billion. New money covered less than two fifths of that rise.
- On 4 October, about 86% of coins sent to exchanges came from short-term holders spending at a profit. A typical day is under two fifths.
By 7 October the largest bids on the Binance book sat at $81,000–$81,250. A new block of asks sat at $86,500–$86,750. The nearest liquidation cluster sat around $81,700–$83,300. Glassnode’s own test for a real breakout was a pickup in spot volume and ETF buying, with a settled close back above $85,500. A break of the $81,000 bids would bring the clusters below into play.
Beside a signal card
A weekend close through a round number is a price print. The assistant row is still the category call for a longer hold. A Pivot Buy on the day price tagged $85,000 does not raise the size of that trade. The percent on the card is that one trade, as in position size is not a portfolio split.
The 22 September ceiling note described the $83,000–$86,000 band as of 7 September. Early October traded through $85,000 and back. Use the 7 October map until Glassnode publishes the next one. Figures revise.
Takeaways
- The push through $85k came on thin volume and profit-taking from recent buyers.
- As of 7 October, bids sat near $81k and asks near $86.5k.
- A later print near $84k does not change the size on the card.
ETF flows for the same week are in ETF outflows and a price that held.
